Light Up Night 2004 Rings In Excitement of Holiday Season
From the Mellon Square lighting display to illuminated snowflakes along city streets, Duquesne Light
has been expanding its role each year as title sponsor of Light Up Night in downtown Pittsburgh.
Light Up Night 2004 on Friday, Nov. 19, was no different – with the company adding a new twinkle to
Pittsburgh's holiday landscape. This holiday season, Duquesne Light's "Tree of Lights" at Point State
Park has been programmed to dim, brighten and sparkle in a variety of patterns.
Illumination of the 80-foot holiday tree – followed by a fireworks display – was the grand finale of Light
Up Night in downtown Pittsburgh. Once again, Duquesne Light served as title sponsor of the traditional
kickoff to the region's holiday season. The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP) estimated that 100,000
people attended the various festivities in the downtown area.
Duquesne Light teamed up with the PDP to turn Market Square into a holiday funfest. Employee volunteers
distributed more than 21,000 of the company's signature "glowsticks" to holiday revelers. Visitors to
Market Square also could enjoy live music and street performers, try the "sticky" obstacle course, get
something to eat at the food court, and take in the holiday atmosphere of the city.
In addition to the holiday tree, Duquesne Light celebrated Light Up Night by turning on the Mellon Square
animated display and illuminated snowflakes along city streets.
"The excitement of the holidays and the community coming together for Light Up Night sends the message
of a bright future," said Morgan O'Brien, Duquesne Light president and chief executive officer.

The winner of Duquesne Light's Light Up Night Sweepstakes – 11-year-old Taymon Perry-Green of Lawrenceville – gets
ready to flip the switch on the Tree of Lights at Point State Park. Taymon and her family also received a prize
package. The contest – open to children ages 6 to 12 – drew more than 800 entries.
