Duquesne Light

PROGRAM GUIDELINES
Duquesne Light's success as a company is directly connected to the success of the communities we serve. Whether we are investing resources to ensure our infrastructure meets the current and future electrical demands of the region, or we are investing in lighting projects and other initiatives that help enhance the quality of life or contribute to economic growth, the goal is the same -- to build strong and vibrant communities where we all can be successful.

Duquesne Light's "Power of Light" corporate outreach program is designed to reinforce our commitment to the future of the Pittsburgh region.

The "Power of Light" program places a special focus on illuminating regional and neighborhood landmarks, recreational lighting, as well as lighting initiatives promoting economic vitality, safety and security in the various communities and neighborhoods Duquesne Light serves. The new program builds on successful recent partnerships like the architectural lighting of Penn Avenue in dowtown Pittsburgh and the Roberto Clemente Bridge, new safety lights installed on Smallman Street in Pittsburgh's Strip District, and the various community ball fields and recreation areas that have received grants to help install lighting.

While lighting is a central focus of the program, Duquesne Light also will fund outreach programs that enhance the region's livability, support the wise-use of energy, or assist low-income families. Preference is given to organizations with documented non-profit 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. We invite organizations that meet the following criteria to apply for donations or in-kind services.
  • Are located in Duquesne Light’s service areas of Allegheny and Beaver counties
  • Specifically address the funding priorities stated above

With this new corporate giving focus, Duquesne Light generally does not fund:

  • Sectarian or denominational religious organizations
  • Institutions supported by tax dollars
  • General street lighting projects
  • Individuals
  • Fraternal organizations
  • Organizations outside the company's service area
  • Profit-making entities
  • Capital campaigns, operating expenses, salaries or travel grants
  • Organizations receiving significant funding through the United Way allocation process
  • Specific arts performances or openings
  • Fundraising dinners, luncheons or events
