Duquesne Light takes great pride in its billing accuracy. We test
every electric meter before we put it into use, and then we perform random
accuracy tests on all meters after they are installed.
The result: Less than one meter in 1,000 falls below Pennsylvania’s
standards of accuracy. This means that your meter is one of the most
accurate pieces of equipment in your home.
Unlike some other utilities, Duquesne Light reads customers’ meters every
month. Most Duquesne Light residential customers now have a
state-of-the-art device in their electric meter that very precisely records
how much electricity they use. With it, we’ve reduced our already low
error rate even farther on the 608,000 meters we read each month.
If your meter doesn’t have a new automatic-read device, and something such
as bad weather or blocked access prevents us from getting a meter reading,
we will use last month’s weather and your previous bills to estimate a
total. This estimate is adjusted in your next electric bill.
We issue your electric bill immediately after we read your meter. Most
billing periods are 30 days, but your billing period can range from 28 to 36
days. Accurate billing is just one more way we provide superior
service for our customers. (Also see Customer Service Guarantees)
